I don't know how many engine failures are a result of lubrication problems. 'Blueprinting' an engine (precise machining to exacting specs and clearances) reduces the need for resorting to high pressure/high volume oil pumps. This type of pump requires more horsepower to drive it. For a pure race engine, a dry sump oiling system is the way to go.

but i have heard of the oil pump being useless after 6500 RPMs
