Arrow Hi, new sti 06 owner and new to fourm. Had a few questions.

First after i break the engine in, i am gonna add a few mods, just stuff to make it sound better. I was thinking a HKS carbon ti exhaust, an injen cai, and a Turbosmart WRX/STI Dual Port Blow. its a 50/50 bov. I was wondering if these mods would make mr. officer angry and if they would void the warrenty. im kinda new to the car thing.

In CA, a visor CD holder can make mr. officer angry. But, without a downpipe, your car will not be too loud, so you should be a ok. Warranty? Also depends. It's a fine line, but if you take care of your car, you don't need to worry about that as lemons are rare among the Subies. And, take it to those dealers that are recommended by the i-Club members.

I am not sure what you are referring to as blowback...

No, you will not have flames. You still have 2 cats on your downpipe. It will just back fart a bit. Is it legal? To shoot flames? Not sure, haha, good question. But in any case, radar detectro wont help you.

Its technically illegal to modify most parts in CA anyhow. So yep, if they actually pop the hood for whatever reason, yep. Most smog shops won't let you pass visual as well ("most"). Then again, with a 06', you've a few years until smog.

Don't mess up the car your parents probably bought you.

BOVs are popular bolt-ons but if you want to avoid scrutiny of law enforcement, don't get a BOV. If for some reason you are pulled over (for exhaust noise, window tint, etc.), some jurisdictions have the authority to arbitrarily ask you to open your hood for a visual inspection. A BOV and other things like aftermarket silicone hoses that are bright red or blue are things that lead to a more detailed inspection for things like missing catalytic converters. A BOV on a stock STI does nothing to enhance performance.

Another cop caller? Loud mufflers with a big, single exhaust tip. The better performing exhausts almost always have a large fart can straight-through type of muffler with big exhaust tip so you have to decide whether you want maximum power potential, aggressive looks, and occasional traffic stops. Again, lots of members have nice exhausts but the really nice ones will attract more attention as you drive.
