STi Y pipe comparison & Installation onto WRX

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone out here might know why one STi Intercooler has the plastic Y pipes vs a solid piece Y pipe

Heres some pictures

Thanks

STIs dont come with plastic Y pipes, only cast aluminum, like in the top left. the one in the bottom pic is the stock WRX plastic Y pipe, the Y pipe on the right is a Samco hose, you can even say it says Samco in the pic, niether the STI or the WRX come with this stock. Hope Im understanding your question correctly

I just installed the Intercooler. Even with the STi "Y" pipe it seems to just be a TAD short (if I were to align and bolt the intercooler onto the stock mounting bracket). I can make it fit without extending the pipe if I don't mount the intercooler to the bracket and just let it rest on top, but that'll make it rattle.

Also, I notice that the center hose (that connects to the throttle body) could be a bit short.

The STi Intercooler didn't come with the BOV gasket, so I re-used the existing one from my stock one. Is that ok? The reason I ask this is because the stock one is spot glued onto the stock IC. Is that to just hold it in place or is that required?

Thanks

I kinda got it to fit in a way that the hose will just clamp the throttle body - but it looks like i'mgonna need to invest in a set of samco hoses... Is that generally the way everyone is approaching this?

SO
Do most people get a set of samco's? They have a longer throttle body/IC hose?

Thanks
