Stick with stock. Aftermarket headers lose heat and exhaust gas velocity, causing slower spool and in some cases reduced boost. This is why the respected US Tuners- i.e. Vishnu, Cobb, etc. don't have headers in development.
I'd say go with the XX Tuning headers that just came out. Produced by the same company as the gt spec. The gt spec ver. 2 have had nothing but flawless reviews from what I've seen, so I'd go with either of the two. XX Tuning is cheaper though.

Well, my experience with my Gruppe-s header has been mixed. At first, I didnt realize that I had a weird leak and actually had lost some power. Later, after the gasket was replaced and fixed, the car REALLY felt stronger from mid to high end speeds. You can really feel the difference. It definitely kicks azz! Overall, from speaking with alot of different scooby and shop dudez... most feel that a header can really make a difference especially with the right ecu tuning etc... I am no experts with SUBY's but I have alot of experience with HONDAS, and I must admit, HEADERs have been known to improve performance.

I just ordered the Gruppe-S headers V.2 with the Jethot 2000 coating option inside and out on a group buy. They are having a special for $550 shipped for a limited time if anyone is interested. I should be getting them in the mail March 5th. After the install, I will post up impressions.

Yes, very true.
I also wanted to add on that topic, the main goal of buying headers is to keep the exhaust gases as hot as possible. This will maintain a faster velocity due to the increased volume. This results in better gains as the turbo will spool faster and give the increased power. The exhaust pipes after the turbo should be as cool as possible so there is a pressure drop and the fumes can escape more quickly. This is why I wondered why people kept wrapping their downpipes in order to keep the heat inside.
So if anyone does get headers, have them wrapped or coated in order to maximize the gains.

Hondas are not Subarus though. In fact the ONLY other make that can be compared to Subaru is Porsche. Also, The effects of headers on an NA car built for economy (which all Hondas are, even the Si and Type R ones) are far different than the effects of headers on turbo cars built for performance (and economy too).

.... I am not saying your wrong but I am not saying your right. But I have been doing alot of research on this topic so I dont know whom to believe. Also, BANS SUV, dont mistaken what I said about the performance gains of headers for a Honda in comparisons to a Subaru. I know that its like comparing apples and oranges. Totally different results when it comes down to it, and yes, Ive known this for a while.

I know a "thermal management" guy, who has done remarkable work on my GTI (I got 40ft-lbs/20hp out of an intake manifold - I was hoping for half that) and he says that a downpipe should "absolutely have some sort of insulator" on it, to keep the exhaust flow hot and slippery. Cold is no good. This guy has 2 decades experience, and has sold patents for the stuff. I trust him.
I just installed Gruppe-S headers, ceramic coated. They work quiet well on a stock STI, however, so far I am throwing a cel, which pisses me off. But the quality of the header is amazing, it's cheap, and it makes big power (or so says my butt.)
