My '05 does not burn oil; engine, tranny, etc.
However, it does stink like burning oil.
I assume it's normal for a new car to stink for awhile.

that smell is most likely cosmolene burning off, cosmolene is the protective anti-corrosion coating applied before the vehicles are put on the boat to the 'States.

Zero oil consumption after 3000k miles since last oil change and 90 min on the track. 8500 on car right now. Using Amsoil 10w-30 Turbo Formula.

have 3400 miles on it now. I did 1 change myself at 1000-1500 w regular dino oil. Am about to do next oil change and looks to be between .5 -1 qt low. I have read that burning oil is normal for a turbo vehicle. Not gobs of oil, but like a quart every 3-4000 miles.

I just had my '05 oil changed last week @2400 miles. This is after I checked the oil level which was at mid point on the dipstick. I never had this problem before on my '02 WRX/impreza. The dealer said that this is normal. So I went ahead and changed oil instead of adding in oil. Another thing that puzzles me is the the dipstick that I can't seem to figure out the "true" reading.

me too! after reading this post i went to check the oil level and it said it was empty so i added a quart of oil. i went in for an oil change and my mechanic told me that i had overflowed the car by a quart! damn dipstick... its because of the twist at the bottom!

subaru says that something like 1qt over 3k is normal, or not requiring repairs.
