I had a similar problem with my 04 sti. i accused Subaru of not putting in enough oil to start with. After my second oil change, I do not have anymore oil consumption. The dealer said this type of breakin period is typical of turbo engines.

 

I am at 20000 miles and never had that problem. But have heard of a lot of people having it

 

Be careful what type of oil you guys use. Costco chevron or target oil burns faster than gasoline 8). I know some people will tell you "Big companies buy the same oil, but put it in their own bottle for profit", but after 4 turbo cars, its not true. Using Penzoil, Castrol, or other higher brands will reduce oil consumption. Synthetic oil burns the least, but becareful using it on an engine under 5k miles.

Also be aware that the thicker the oil, the less you will lose. 10w-30 isnt a very good idea to use on any turbo car because it doesnt supply enough oil pressure into the turbo.

 

Try to measure your oil at the same oil temp/engine temp its at every time. Theres a differance between cold readings, hot readings, and readings after flying down a track.
