Boost Spike
Boost Spike
I have a thought.......... has anyone ever looked at a stock D P for an STi? The hot exhaust has to make a sharp right to go down to the D P. If you install a bellmouth which directs all exhaust more efficiently. Explain how making the WASTE GATE be able to flow more waste exhaust cause Boost to Spike? The size of the wastegate has not changed.
If you know how a turbo works it doesnt make sense. I will tell you why....... you have a set amount of boost, lets say 15 psi. You have the exhaust driving the turbine. Turbine speeds up. uh oh too much boost. wastegate now says too much boost lets open UP and now redirect exhaust to Slow the speed of the turbine. Now it is capable of being open for a shorter peroid of time due to the better flow.
How can that make the turbine spin faster and spool up quicker than it programed to, If it can remove exhaust faster?

More exhaust=faster turbo spool=more boost...got it?
Close wastegate = more exhaust through turbo=more boost....got it?
Open wastegate= less exhaust through turbo=less boost...got it?
Better DP=more exhaust (see first line above).
Stock DP give enough backpressure to control boost with wastegate wide open (see line 3 above).
Better DP with less backpressure w/wide open wastegate still flows enough exhaust through the turbo to make it spin faster=boost creep=fuel cut=sick feeling in tummy...got it?
