But if he has the APS bov, he should be safe. The APS bov is not 100% atmospheric. The primary vent is recirculated, and the smaller secondary vent (which only operates under high boost) is atmospheric. I haven't heard about anyone having a problem with this bov yet.

Dual-stage BOVs are indeed safer than atmospheric, but won't produce the sound people want (this one won't "phhsssttt" at all on a stock motor running stock boost; you have to be running quite a bit more boost than stock to get it to go off).

Well, I'm exaggerating slightly. A full-atmospheric BOV can cause your engine to run excessively rich, because you are letting out air that has already been compensated for in the A/F mixture by the ECU according to its measurements at the MAF. If you've got a host of other badly-planned mods (say, a manual boost controller turned up too high, the 3/16th mod, a CAI) all of those together can cause enough knock and other trouble to burn a valve or a piston ring. The reason I'm wary about this is that for some reason, people with the full-atmospheric BOV are also likely to have the other cheapo, dangerous mods as well, because those mods are really common in the Civic/Acura modding scene.
