2006 WRX - questions on TBE

Noob questions incoming

On a 2006 WRX:

1. Do you need an EM like Accessport or Ecutek or whatever in order to run a TBE or is it possible to run with a TBE with the stock ECU?

2. Do you void the warranty if you replace the exhaust? Is it possible to replace just a part of the exhaust so that the warranty is not void?

Sending thanks in advance,

As far as warentee is concerned, any modification to your car could void some warentee but the dealer would have to show that your modification was the cause of the failure in the part being warrenteed.

Because a dealer wants to maintain your business, he probibly won't give you any hassel about a catback. If you have a Stage IV car with aftermarket turbo, injection system and piggyback ECU... good luck - your paying friend.

To your first question. I would recomend geting a simple EM system like Cobb AP or EcuTek. You will pull alot more power (safely) out of each modification, than you would without it.

Thanks for the answers. Problem with the EM is that I'm in Europe, the AP - as far as I know - doesn't work on EU spec cars and the closest Ecutek tuner is like a 15h driving trip away This is why I was interested in running a TBE without an EM and wanted to know if it can cause any damage or unwanted behaviours (except the already known and easily fixable CEL caused by the lack of cat).

Tx!

You should be fine running them without EM. With a turbo back, you may run into a problem.
1) Boost creep - the solution (it does not always work perfectly but it always helps) is to port and pollish your turbo wastegate.

I hesitate to make the recomendation but take a look at the UTek piggyback system. It will allow you to do the tuning. This gives you the power to destroy your car - make sure you are educated before doing any tuning using the UTek. This will give you the ability to download maps as you upgrade your car and you don't need a tuner. You are at a bit of a disadvantage not using a dyno for your tuning but there are some very fast and reliable cars out there that have never been on a dyno.

it might be worth it to look at it.
