I would go with the standard 3in exhaust from APS instead of the 3.5 in its a little overkill and more money.

Thats what I was thinking. Evo's out handle sti's, but sti's come with more power than stock evo's.

yup, a nice spring/strut setup for starters, then some sway bars, steering bushing rack thing whatever i can't remember the name at the moment. Possibly tires depending on how fast you go through them.

Yes, check out the japan's sti spec c ra. Supposedly it outhandles any stock car with AWD.

$1,000 a month in mods?

I'd be saving that bank.

If all you care about is straightline then why did you buy a subaru? No offense, but they aren't exactly designed for the drag strip.

go buy a mustang. to drag an STi(only for that purpose) in my opinion would be a waste. by all means its capable... but if you are set on drag, then i must add that suspension will be crucial somewhat once you create a "monster". as with most dragstrip beasts their shocks generally are drag type. STi susp is somewhat aggressive but very much so tailored to be "daily driver".

If you read up on the forum, you'll find some of the typical paths folks have taken. You can do things in stages or buy it all at once. For your power mods, I would suggest saving up for a few months and doing everything at once. That way you can get it dyno tuned once.

For moderate power gains you can go with a 3" TBE ($900-$1,500) and engine management (XEDE, UTEC, ECUTek reflash) ($600-$850). I would recommend the reflash for safety purposes. Dyno tuning will cost $200 an hour or so.

After the TBE and for higher power gains you can swap to a different turbo. There are some bolt-on options ($1,200) from Garrett now or you could go for a full custom setup ($2K+, although the standard TBE's would not fit - add another for $2K for custom uppipe and custom downpipe). When you do the turbo, you'll have to change the injectors ($600) and fuel pump ($100). Depending on the power you may want to replace the TMIC with a FMIC ($900-$1,500).

If you choose the UTEC or XEDE for engine management, you'll be able to run different maps for normal pump gas and race gas. The race gas will allow you to really take advantage of a bigger turbo's potential.

Of course if 1/4 or 1/8 is your only goal you could add N2O, although I would advise against it.

If you're going to go that fast you better be ready to brake just as fast. Upgrade the pads ($250-$500), change to SS lines ($120), and swap fluid ($50). Better suspension will help you with better traction, so plan on coilovers ($1,200-$4,000) and upgraded tires ($800).

Also set aside some money for the inevitable clutch replacement ($500-$800) and potential engine and transmission damage.

I'm sure there is some stuff I am forgetting...
