07 WRX "Concerns"
07 WRX "Concerns"
So I just recently bought a 2007 WRX. I had to order it, but once it made it to the dealer there was 140 miles on the odo. I broke it in accordingly, since the MotoMan method was not an option with that many miles. I just broke 1000 miles on the way to NYC, and it is at 1400. My problem is, however, that when i first got the vehicle, I noticed a considerable pull on acceleration. When I drive now, 1st just feels stagnant, like the engine is just incresing RPMs but not really doing anything, even uphill. I remember how 5th on the interstate could go from 65 to 85 easily without downshifting, and it doesnt have that same effect. At first I thought mabey it is the same, but I just got used to it, but now Im getting concerned. I recently did a "snorkusectomy", and I noticed that at certain RPMs the BPV is steadily moving air back into the intake. This may be normal, I dont know. A thought is mabey i should A) Reset the ECU (I have to check on how, though) or B) Invest in a Boost Pressure Gauge.
On a side question....
Does anyone feel that 2nd lacks low end power. I was running through town, rushing up the EMS Station to fill a back up unit, and as i swung around a 90, it bogged down. I never have had to downshift to 1st while moving before.... ever.

um.... your bpv shouldn't be relieving preasure unless your letting off the throttle or your exceeding it's boost tolerances which is normally post 23psi. If that's not the case then it may need to be replaced.

Sounds like maybe you aren't boosting? I'm not sure, so take that with a grain of salt. To reset the ecu, disconnect the battery and press the brake a pedal a few times to get rid of any excess electricity in the system. I'm not sure that would help things, but it might. The best thing would be to bring it to someone who knows what they are doing and have them take a look at it. In my opinion, getting a turbo'd car without a boost gauge is like not having a tach...

In lower gears, you have to build boost early. Otherwise, your RPMs will raise to quickly (due to the gearing in low gears) for the turbo to build any boost. My car is the same way: If I give a decent amount of throttle in 1st or 2nd it will pull hard. If I dont give it throttle by 3500 or so, there is not enough room left in the powerband (due to the tiny turbo we have ) for the motor to build any boost before shifting.
Edit: When cruising, try to stay above 2000-2500 RPMS if you want to get on it. My turbo spools around 2500-2800 RPMS. You should only drop below 2k if you are decelerating for a stop.

if you feel that there is no power coming from the turbo and just feels like a subaru that does not have turbo it might be a downpipe/catalitic conveter. I had a problem with my 06 sti, dealer warranty the downpipe and cats on the vehicle
