Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

White smoke only when smashing.

Ok so I have a 02 with 145k on it. Went Cobb stage 3 two days ago with a rebuilt VF39, STi pinks , KnN panel filter, Catless up,full catless DP and tbe. Wideband reads fine and new plugs installed NGK iridium stock heat range. Car never smokes at idle or during Daily driving but only at full boost 18-19psi. It's a puff of white smoke but smells like BBQ not coolant. Coolant and oil aren't mixing and it never happened before with the stock injectors and tdo4. At WOT AFR reads 11.3-11.5 on a AEM UEGO.

it doesnt smell like coolant, and my oil and coolant arent mixing. AFR on this map is supposed to be 10.5 at WOT, my gauge reads 11.3-11.5 at WOT 18-19psi. the map calls for 17.5+/-.7. idk if its due to running lean or not. This issue also happened right after the turbo swap, and it pulls hard!

Increased cylinder pressures will lift the heads in boost. Head gaskets and head bolts might be the problem.

so you are saying that its pushing coolant under boost? but wouldnt it lift the head enough that there would be oil and coolant mixing?

Not if it's just getting started. When a hg gets really bad you'll notice the oil and coolant mixing. Right now it could be a failed hg between the cylinder and coolant jacket.

it stopped, i forgot to mention that i had to have the exhaust fixed, so there was some new piping. I assume the new piping has the film on it that had to burn off. Also I was thinking it was running lean because the inlet pipe where it meets the turbo is torn, just found this out yesterday when the rip got so big its running rich now and cant build boost.
