Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

changing to synthetic

My rule of thumb, is to put on 2500 miles with the OEM lube, change oil & filter,
using dino oil, then change to synthetic @ 5k miles. I drive hard during break in, but make a point of fluctuating engine speed. That helps lap in the rings etc.
I have put over 125k miles on cars, including 30+k miles on my 02 WRX, and never use a drop of oil between 5k mi. changes. I use Castrol Syntec 5-30 most of the time, and Mobil when I can't find it.
By the way, Purilator makes the Suby oem filter.
