Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

What turbo would you use??

The VF22 spools up late too. So it's pretty laggy, it isn't ideal for a daily driver. Just something to think about.

Based on that, I would recommend the VF30. It has less lag and a lower boost threshold than the VF22, and it's good for 330-340 crank horsepower on an EJ20 with proper complimentary mods.

A VF30 can make 400 at teh crank on race gas, but any turbo that makes 350 at the wheels on pump gas (and I don't think this is possible in CA with a 2.0 liter motor) would be very laggy and no fun to drive on the street.

350WHP is an awful lot of power on the stock block 2.0L engine. It would be much easier to do that on a 2.5L engine. That way, you can have the WHP, and have a half decent power curve.

For that much power on pump gas, you will need a 20G turbo or bigger. Only problem with this turbo on the 2.)L engine is that it spools up at much closer to 5K rpms, which leaves you with 2k rpms to play with.

The more WHp you hunt for, the less of a powerband you will get. That is just by virtue of the relatively small despalcement of the ej20

I like the VF23 too. May want to check it out. I may end up running one on my EJ22T.

look,

BIG HP on pump gas = BIG turbo (20g, T67?) for going fast .01 percent of the time and a big headache 99.99 percent of the time

BIG HP on race gas = medium turbo (VF30, 18G, PE1818) for going fast .01 percent of the time (filling up with race gas) and pretty good drivability 99.99 percent of the time (on pump gas and an alternate fuel map)

You get what you pay for, all I can say, all anyone can say, you get what you pay for.

If I found a new VF23 for cheap, I'd like to try that one too...
