I just bought a wrx wagon that had been wrecked, body damge pretty good but my worry is the motor, the left side(faceing the front of car) I noticed that the timeing gears(plastic, wtf) are broke into multiple pieces and belt is pushed off. anyway just want some idea on what to do about fixing it or replaceing. I did search but found no answers.

Should have asked questions before buying, hope you got this car cheap.
If the cam sprockets are damaged as you describe it's very likely the valves are bent and there may be damage to the pistons as well. The heads would have to be removed to inspect the engine internals and determine the extent of the damage. Depending on how bad it is you may be better off finding a replacement motor.
Then there is also the matter of body damage and whether the frame is affected and to what extent. Some types of frame damage are unsafe and/or not cost effective to repair.
Before you go too far with repairs and expenses evaluate the car completely, and determine if it's really worth fixing and if it'll be structurally sound and safe once done. Compare the total cost and effort of the repairs against that of buying a good used car that you can just drive.
If it turns out to not be worth repairing you still have the option of parting out whatever is good on it to recover some $$.

well i payed 6 grand for the car and most of all the work will be done between me and a couple friends of mine one is good with body work and paint and the other is good with alot of stuff but don't know subaru well yet
about the only thing that will cost me is parts and frame straighting, a new motor maybe in mind like a 2.0 sti motor or a built wrx motor or rebuild mine with new heads from cobb tuning and pistons i guess i will see as time passes,
Thanks

You will have head damage. I have a 2002 wrx repairable and mine was hit in the frount right side. My timeing gears were broke also there were bent valves on each head. Did all of the labor my self and took the heads to a shop that put new valves in and check the heads out. There was just alot of time in taking the heads off the car when the motor is still in the car. I paid $5500 for the car with 3000 miles on it and had about $5000 worth of parts and misc. to get it back to new. But did all of the body work and frame work my self. The head parts are cheep so there will not be that much cost to fix them most of the cost is for the shop to put the valves in and check the head out. Do you have a shop discount or any thing. It will help out on cost alot my $5000 worth of parts is at 25% discount. Just my .02 cents

thats cool cheap labor, my one friend is good with body and paint but but he doesn't do frame so I will have to take it to a frame shop! Also do you happen to know what the black frame piece is under the car that the motor sits on and the suspension conects to? is it the subframe? I asked a couple of shops in town and they just give me a blank stare! lol
Thanks

It is a subframe it does not have any thing to do with your suspension at all. It just bolts on to your frame with 8 bolts. I think it is just a subframe to stiffen the frount of the car? Make sure you have a new one of these when you bring it to the frame shop will not bolt up if the frame is the least bit off. Also i got some parts like the air bags and seat belts used from www.car-parts.com there is a good amount of used wrx stuff on there just to let you know.

That subframe is partially for stiffening, and partially for crash safety. If the latter wasn't a factor I would recommend removing it... but alas, it needs to stay.

stage? ,, my are was in the same spot i wrecked it hard to set off the air bags.. the only danage to the motor was the plastic/composit cam gears and the bent valves... one thing i was told was to check the pistons real good to make sure they are not cracked... and to grind smoth all the pit marks the valves made on the piston... all the engine plastic and body parts you can buy at the junk yard cheep and the valves will run a about $250. and the head gaskets about $35 or so each.. and its a good thing to change the guide rubber seals when you have the head apart... when the belt jumps all the valves that are up will bend... so check the other side also...
p.s. there is a tool called a porta power that will push/pull/spread 10 thousand lbs and they cost around $180-250 at a place called harbor freight and tool.. there are on the net also
