Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

It's nearly impossible to make a WRX sound like a Honda. Even if you swap out the headers for equal length ones, it'll sound more like a Camaro than a Honda. Having said that, sound-wise any model will do.
The Apex'i N1 is fairly soft but still deep on the WRX, but is ungodly loud on a 2.5RS. I have no idea why I wouldn't recommend it though, since its 2.5 inch diameter piping is too restrictive for a turbocharged car like our WRX, IMHO. Run a search for recommended exhausts, since this topic has been discussed countless times here on the boards.

I know it's IYHO but IMHO, 2.5" exhaust isn't a bad thing... Like I said in another post, a friend of mine went 12.9 on stock turbo with very few bolt ons, a 2.5" turboback exhaust being one of them. Some Cobb Stage 2's can't even get 12's but a stock turbo w/2.5" did... so I doubt exhaust is a big deal when you're under ~300whp

That is indeed a good point that you make. It's true that piping diameter is still up for debate these days. It's good that you pointed this out

Sound and looks...

I would recommend the HKS Carbon-Ti/HKS Hi-Power Catbacks, Apexi GT-Spec/Apexi N1 Catbacks. The Apexi's has a very deep rumble but smooth flowing sound. The HKS's has a quieter rumble compare to the HKS's but at the top RPM's it does scream a bit.

Hopes this helps...

Correction

I mean the HKS's have a quiter rumble compare to the Apexi's. If you have problems with the exhaust being too loud or annoying on daily drives, the Apexi's comes with a silencer and the HKS also has the optional silencer...

I get lots of positive comments on the Blitz Nur Spec R, yes it's loud, but it's got a deep, burly tone to it, and screams when you open it up. No tin rice noises here.

My TurboXS turboback rfl-ti (2004 model) sounds great... and surprisingly it idles as quiet as my prodrive and is only slightly louder at highway cruising speeds.

INVIDIA INVIDIA INVIDIA! I love mine, its a full 3" and it grumble's more than the HKS and sounds like the world is going to crumble beneath your tires at WOT. I love it. Plus when you gotta pick up the ladies (or lady) pop the silencer in and it is vvery tame! INVIDIA INVIDIA. I am having a clunking issue but i think it was just a poor installation(by me)!
