Motor gains rpm faster. Less load on reciprocating parts. This was for 230-250hp VW engines for drag racing only, not street stuff. More often, we'd go to Ti valves to allow for more rpm with less spring pressure.

Was it worth it? Wasn't my cash. The motor was built originally with them, so there were no back-to-back dyno results with steel rods vs. ti.
