wastegate adjustment
I read somewhere last week about controlling wastegate flutter. I can't find the post now and was wondering if anyone had tried this. If I understood the thread right you can tighten or loosen the control arm (little rod with threads on it) going to the wastegate actuator and adjust the tension. Hence, less flutter. Does this have any effect on the efficiency of the wastegate? Could I run into boost control problems by attempting this? Any thoughts?

I wouldn't mess with that if I were you. What you are talking about it basically what a boost controller does. In short, that spring and vacuum going to it is what controls the wastegate opening and closing. If you mess with it, you can either lower or raise boost...ie. wastegate opens at a higher pressure thus allowing more exhaust gas to spin the turbine. However, if you were to just do it without any thought of your actions, you can end up destroying your turbo and hurting your engine. If you really want to make sure that you are calibrating it correctly, get a good boost controller and make sure you have a boost guage that is installed while everything is stock so that you can measure the change. Just be very careful with what you plan on doing when it comes to messing with boost pressure.

I do have a boost gauge and an mbc (not a very good one though), and I definatly don't feel like upgrading a turbo out of nesscesity. I just thought that maybe my spring tension was a little too low, hence more flutter. But I,m not even sure that's the proper way to adjust it. The post I read said to tighten it about 4 turns. So i figured I'd do 2, and see what happens. But I would rather wait and hear from someone that has already done it. Thanks for the input.

I just adjust mine, I turned the connector at the end of the actuator arm one turn clockwise, which threads it in. It did reduce flutter a bit and may of raised boost a hair, but such a small amount I can't be sure. The boost control selonoid will still control the boost once the wastegate opens.
To lower boost turn the connector counterclockwise which threads it out. Remember to tighten the lock nut on the arm when done.
