I think this is the way the wastegate works:
The wastegate is a valve that allows the exhaust to bypass the turbine blades. The wastegate senses the boost pressure. If the pressure gets too high, it could be an indicator that the turbine is spinning too quickly, so the wastegate bypasses some of the exhaust around the turbine blades, allowing the blades to slow down.

i have profec b 2
but my boost will drop as soon as the level i set wastegate open.
shouldn't it just maintain the boost level.?
so now i get the boost up n down at all time...
any cue.?
tks alot

The wastegate basically just regulates the exhaust gases going through the turbine. There is a diaphram and spring type deal inside the wastegate that is controlled with vacuum lines. When a certain psi/boost is reached, the daphram opens and allows some of the exhaust gases to bypass the turbine. It just keeps boost from going above a certain point (safety feature). Basically, the same principle as the blow-off valve except that is compressed air and not exhaust gases. That spring in the wastegate is one of hte ways people used to up the boost back in the day for a low budget upgrade. They would put a stiffer spring so the wastegate woudn't open as soon (higher boost). I don't recommend messing with the wastegate unless you know what you're doing.
ever heard about running a car with an open wastegate???i too am not too sure on how this is suposed to werk, but a friend of mine that owns a RX7 runs his car with an open wastegate....and if you would like to know about disturbing the peace, MY GOD...(i kno rotorarys are loud, but this was insane). if i could get a video clip on his car, ill try to get it up.
