VF-34 questions

Im interested in purchasing a VF-34 kit for my 02 WRX soon but i have a few questions for the experts as i am not very fimiliar with the subject.

1. Which up-pipe will mate to the VF-34? I have an HKS up-pipe currently being used on my stock turbo. Will that up-pipe work, and if not which one will?

2. Do i need to replace the stock TMIC with a higher performance TMIC, and if so which one would be best suited for the VF-34 application?

any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

with the vf-34, a ne wfuel pump and fuel injectos will be needed. the turbo is a direct replacement for the stock turbo so everything is compatible. also, ur gonna have to look into some sort of engine management for it to run properly.

vf34 package (turbo, sti pink injectors, walboro fuel pump) - 1250 at gruppe-s.com
Engine management (many mor eoptions available besides what i list - Cobb tuning ecu reflash $300 or the Cobb accessport $600.

the Engine management i listed are off the shelf maps. you can not have a fmic or tmic. or atleast it isnt recomended. all thats needed is a catback, downpipe or just a complete turboback system.

1. Any uppipe that fits with the stock turbo will work with any of the VF series turbos.

2. You do not have to replace the intercooler. With the stock intercooler + vf34 you can safely peak at about 17.5 to 18 psi. If you do want a more effective intercooler, go straight for the FMIC. A larger TMIC isn't worth the high cost.

MMboost and Wonton2049 thanks for the tips. Are there any other vendors who sell the VF-34 turbo kit?

Use the vendors listed to the right on the front page. I have had great sales with several of them.

Thanks to all who have posted their advice on this thread. Ive decided to get the kit from Gruppe S, as ive heard a lot of good things about them. Now i just have to wait about 5 months till i can afford the kit, as i am trying to finish a few other projects with my car.

He wants help with getting a turbo, not on finding pre-op male hookers.

Without any tuning or engine management, the car will:

-Not idle properly
-Not make as much power
-Sputter and cut out at top end
-could be dangerous for engine

The only way to go with a new turbo and injector setup would be to get it tuned. The ECU can learn things like a downpipe but it cannot learn a whole new turbo and a whole lot more fuel without some engine management

Would a Cobb tuning accessECU re-flash do the trick?

They at Cobb Tuning are very good at what they do, they tune cars. . . but they are at 4,000 ft elevation so when you have your car down in san diego you have more dense air coming into your car and your ecu has to learn it, sacraficing power because it isn't tuned right.

Access ECU and reflashes and XEDE's are "off the shelf maps" that means that a tuner compiles them based on general concensus of information that a certain make/model of car gives.

Custom Dyno Tuning is exactally how it sounds, you get your car on a dyno and a tuner specifically tunes your car to your certain needs, climate, and engine. That is usually the suggested route to go.

I think I-Speed is in southern california, look them up give them a call and ask questions. If you are willing to make the drive up to northern california Vishnu Tuning is up here.

Good Luck
