Uppipes and gaskets.....
OK, I am going to be installing my STi uppipe and I came across a thread where it was mentioned that I should replace the gaskets of all of the pieces that are going to be removed during the install. i.e. Drivers side manifold to head, manifold to cross pipe, manifold to uppipe, uppipe to turbo, and downpipe to turbo. Right now I only have the two gaskets that go on either side of the uppipe.
I hadn't heard this before, my REX has 20k miles, if that makes a difference.
Thanks for your time and advice.

I have installed 5 uppipes. I used new gaskets on all of them but mine. Guess what, mine leaked. There is one that you can get away with not replacing and that is the down pipe to turbo. That is only if the old gasket is in good condition. I tell people to have all the gaskets because if you take the car apart and that one gasket is in bad shape when you put it back in it WILL leak. You are better off replacing them all unless you like putting the uppipe in twice. If the install leakes then you have to remove and reinstall the pipe wich means another set of gaskets.
Jsunn I talked to you about installing that pipe for you. If you don't want to spend the money to do it right then I don't want to do the install. I know I sound like a jerk but I don't want you comming back to me and telling me and other people that my work sucks because you did not take my advice on an install.

You might want a downpipe gasket too. I had new uppipe gaskets so no leaks there. But the downpipe has developed a slight leak.

You are one in a hundred my friend. I've down the downpipe on my car about 20 times. Not once did I replace it. I've also done downpipes for friends and never had a leak at all.
