Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Unfortunately, the effects of a hammer and and screwdriver do not approximate the efects of 1500F temps and corrosive gases released from hydrocarbons. I personally would never trust my turbo to a gutted cat unless it was removed through chemical means.

only newbies stop with a chisel/hammmer/screwdriver...

a hole saw, grinding wheel, and wire brush, in that order, finishes the job. i ASSURE you without any doubt--there ain't nothing more coming out of that up pipe. there's simply nothing but nice shiny steel left.

if you've got the tools and a little practice, you can do one in an hour. i just might start doing them for profit (done 3 now).
