up pipe question...

some local guy said he had a up pipe for sale, so my friend told me about it, since im looking to get one. but he said that the guy selling it said that there was two types of up pipes. a soft mount and hard mount? i forgot which one he said it was, but i was wondering what the difference was, or if there is even such a thing as hard mount and soft mount up pipes. also, i have a blitz nur spec cat back, which is a little to loud as is, will the up pipe make it louder? thanks

i am thinking he is thinking flex. Yes it will make it louder, but depending on brand it may be worth it or not. Helix is trusted brand on the forums. Check it out.

i think he was thinking about flex too. a flex pipe does what its called, it flexes, preventing leaks more so than the solid pieces. but if installed properly there shouldnt be any leaks.
when i had just an uppipe, the exhaust got a bit deeper, i cant imagine how much louder yours will be.

thanks alot guys, i was pretty sure he was mistaken for something else when he said hard and soft pipe. i guess it probably won't matter which one it is since i'll probably have mpj or some other local shop install it. the cat back was easy enough for me to do it myself, but the up pipe looks like it's a little harder to get to.

Definately get a flex. I have the Helix Uppipe and it is one of the best out there. A lot of the others will leak so be careful.

You can also do what I did and get an STi catless UP. I got mine for around $150. Fits just as well, has a fex, and does not need to be gutted. Even has a Subaru logo on it... very sleeper. If you are gonna get the UP installed by MPJ, you may as well get a DP and have them install that too, since the DP has to be removed to install the UP. Will save on install in the long run.

Gut it youself. It's pretty easy. There is a write up on scoobymods.com. I would post a link, but I'm too lazy to find it. :-) Run a search and it should pop up.

one more question,

this up pipe will not come with any gaskets, but i see that most places that sell up pipes include a 5pc gasket kit.

so do i have to replace the stock gaskets? my car has about 2500 miles, so i was just wondering if it was necessary to replace them, when the car is still fairly new.

every time you remove the gaskets you have to replace them.. sucks fat boner but you will most likely get leaks if you dont.

My header has been off three times and the gaskets have been reused...never had a leak. MPJ guys know what they're doing!

I wouldn't bother asking a muffler shop. They can get themselves into big trouble by disabling part of the emission controls.
