Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

UP/DP questions

I just got my car back from the shop with a brand new catless Bosal Downpipe, catless Crucial Racing Uppipe, and Autometer boost guage (or, turbometer as I like to call it). I already had a Magnaflow muffler and a 3 inch pipe running to the last cat on there. Now, from what I understand this upgrade eliminated 2 of the 3 catalytic converters. Is my car going to pass inspection with only 1 cat? The guy at the shop told me that you only need 1 to pass. Then why does it have 3? Also, is this cat going to burn out sooner or have a shortened life because it's taking the load of 3 cats? Thanks for the help

The cat in the upipe is only for cold start emission. From what I've read your car will pass the sniffer with 1 cat but I dont know if it will pass the visual in your state. In California it wouldnt pass the visual because it is against the law to mess with the cat's. You need to find out what your local emissions laws are. Did you keep the factory midpipe and cat?

I believe the midpipe with cat is intact. California has such strict emissions laws... I don't believe Mass has a visual inspection. I know I've never seen them pop the hood on my car during an inspection so I guess I should be safe. We'll find out in October I suppose...

If you want to get even more power you may want to go with a high flow cat and a 3" midpipe to complete the TBE.

Good luck.
