TXS Stealthback Rattling/Creaking Big Time!
Hi everyone,
My mechanic (local subie dealer shop foreman) installed my TurboXS catless stealthback w/UPPipe (and perrin pulley) on the weekend...wow!!! The car really pulls freely, and man you can hear that turbo spool up! No lag, whatsoever...drives like a bat out of hell...anyways...
Couldn't be happier with the performance, but the day after the install I noticed some rattling/clanging (metal on metal) mostly on decelleration and over bumps, definitely annoying! But only occurred a few times...
Today (seemed to be after the car warmed up) The same rattling/creaking sound occurred for my whole drive in to work! At low speeds, on the highway, etc for about 20min straight. It seems right under the front cabin, although I honestly don't know. I can only assume it's related to the steathback as It occurred the day after the install. The sound was there for the whole drive, it just varied from quiet to loud...seems like more of a creaking than a rattling. I can't live with this sound, and I'm worried about causing some kind of damage...it really doesn't sound too good!
As you can tell, I am totally a newbie and non-technical...so what better place to ask for advice than here??
I will check the heatshield (which the mechanic cut) and maybe the hangers?! I really appreciate any input. Of, course I will check with the mechanic, but I was hoping he would have done it right the first time!!! I assumed since he works on this stuff, that I would have avoided this, but whatever! It's pretty dissapointing annoyance...but I hope it can be fixed without dismantling everything :-(
Anyways thanks again, look forward to hearing some suggestions.
All the best,
Brian Broz

Okay first of all, relax. I can almost guarantee that one or two bolts came loose or the guy forgot to put one back on. If you wait until the exhaust cools off (an hour or two) you can get under the car and take a look at it. It sounds like you probably don't have a jack which would help, but if you just reach under there and give a tug on the exhaust, I'd be willing to bet you find that something's loose.
Even if you don't, don't fret. Just take it back to the dealer and have then put it back up on the rack. I'd bet $$$ that the guy goes, "My bad, I forgot to put so and so bolt back on. Sorry about that." and you'll be on your way. Good luck.
