Turbo Upgrade Questions???
Hello. I just finished installing my GT-Spec V2 Header W/Up-pipe, Invidia Downpipe, and HKS Carbon-Ti Catback. Now I want to upgrade my turbo but there's too many options out there in the market.
My plan is to at least make 300whp.
Here are my choices so far & if you guys can guide me which one is the best upgrade:
1. 16g Turbine
2. 18g Turbine
3. 20g Turbine
4. IHI VF-34
Please note that all the turbines above will be ported, polished, ceramic coated, & turbine wheel clipped for maximum air flow, reduced lag, etc.
Thanks,
MArk

Be very very careful having the turbo ported and having the turbine modified. As you know, when a turbo is designed, everything is made to exacting specs such as proper balancing and spacing between different parts such as the fins from the inner wall. All this is needed when you are spinning at 100,000 rpm's.
As for which turbo to get, it depends on what you are looking for out of the car.

Our preferences lay with the VF22 or the 18g. You are not going to hit 300whp on a vf34 unless you are on a very generous dyno.
crash n burn.....Clips can be fatal to a turbo if done incorrectly. Thats why all clipped turbos are spin balanced to be as near perfect as possible.
We offer porting and polishing, clips and ceramic coating all at a very reasonable price.

20G, I mean, why not go all the way, huh? It would suck to get the 16G or 18G and then wish you had the 20G, ya know?
I'm proned to go big whenever I buy anything though because I hate leaving and getting that nagging feeling that I should have gone with the next model up. Just my .02 .

20g upgrade???
Now for the 20g upgrade, can I use the STi Injectors, Walbro Fuel Pump & Perrin Fuel rails?
Are 20g's reliable at all (I do a little bit of highway racing here and there when challenged.)?
What kind of hp/tourque am I gonna get from the 20g upgrade considering that I have a full exhaust system set up from headers all the way to the cat back?
Any feedbacks, negative or positive at all???
Thanks,
MArk

PE1820 will get you 300+ WHP and you will kill people even on the freeways. Great top end Turbo. I have one ...it is awesome. I have smoked the usual V8 Mustangs, Camero, Z06 Vett, and even smoked a NEW M3 on the freeway. You may get a "lil" lag....but if you need your power...just down shift. Trust me...it's not as bad as people say!!
If you match it up with a STi 6 speed...like I did...you vertually have NO lag....every gear is in your love!!!
PE1818 will get you close too.

ps. I will have an extra 1820 for sale next week. If your interested.

Yes they do pull....awesome High end. Just got my WRX tuned again with my 1820....damn it is sweet!!!! I will be looking for STi's and EVO's again. hehehehe
Hey, if you are interested I still have a "newer" version pe1820 that I am going to be selling. I bought it from a local guy who went back to a vf22, I used if for the "suby track day" and took it off last week...it is in great condition, but I am now using my other friends "older" version pe1820.
Anyway, if your interested let me know....it will be cheaper than buying a NEW one!!! I havnt posted in the FS section yet.

I heard that the "older" version, get a lil more power, but I dont think much...they are both awesome turbos and I dont think anyone would tell the difference between the 2.
Now the pe1825 is a twin scroll....so I dont think we can use those....unless we change a lot of things. would be nice though.

the PE turbo's only really shine with high octane right?
as in a vf22 will be just as good on pump gas as a 1820 correct?
or am i wrong...
ferdie, what would u say the best pump gas turbo is for track / autocross?
which also would give the best freeway high end

As for highway... the 1820 is SICK!!!!! I believe it still has WAY better High end over the vf22. This 1820 turbo just pulls!!! Keeps pulling all through 5th and even into 6th....I couldnt be happier with my choice to go with a pe1820.
Now, if you want something with a lil less lag on a 5 speed, maybe the 1818, or the vf22. To me 1820 > vf22...and PE > vf.
