here's vishnu's DIY, you be the judge if this is something you want to tackle yourself. how bad do you want to save money versus your time, busted knuckles, cursing, etc.

my thoughts and experiences with an up-pipe install

I paid a shop $150.00 for the install of an Up-pipe. As I was arranging the install over the phone I was told that it usually takes them about two hours to complete the job. MPJ does alot of up-pipes and I felt good about their work.

Even if I had a good back,,, I would have had to crawl under the car and there would be no way that I could have done that work in two hours.......So for me their was no question...

I pay someone $150.00 or spend 5 hours tweaking my back and busting my knuckles. I am a mediocre mechanic at best..........

Putting an up pipe on isnt a *****. Just time consuming. Gotta take off the intercooler, turbo, down pipe, up pipe, under shroud, many heat sheilds, and drain the coolant. Took me about 5 hours of work to get it off and about an hour to put it all back together. Might as well put a new down pipe and intercooler hoses on while you do it. Their all comin off anyway.

Five hours is pretty good. However, why did you drain the coolant? Never heard of it being done that way before.
