Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Question Too much boost.

I am really lost on this one. As I was leaving work yesterday, my WRX was acting different. Then to make things worse, I threw a CEL. I couldn't find anything wrong, so I reset the ECU and went on with business. Just a few minutes ago, I had gone to the store and pushed WOT and boosted at 20psi before I noticed it. I have had my car tuned with a stage 2 using ECUTek with a stock turbo. My car never boosts that high. Until today, I could only reach 16.4psi. What can cause this to happen? I couldn't find anything disconnected or broken. If anyone has some useful info please help!

When you hit 20 psi does it stay there or does it waver back and fourth? If you are experiencing boost waver you need to start by checking for vac leaks. I had the same problem and it was because the clamp that holds the vac line to the T from the compressor was loose so the FBC wasn't seeing the correct amount of pressure. If you can't find any vac leaks try eliminating the FBC by running a piece of vac line from the compressor straight to the WG and see if you hold a steady 7-8psi. If it holds steady you're WG is functioning properly so the problem may be with the FBC.

I never held it at 20psi long enough to find out about it. After some hard looking, it turns out I ripped a vac line going to the waste gate actuator. Just my luck. I had it replaced and all is well now. I think my TMIC had something to do with it. I'm running a TurboXS HyperflowTMIC and it actually is almost point blank against that vac hose. It put a serious bend in the hose and I guess over time it just tore a hole right into it. Either way, its all good now.
