takin off your muffler.....
have you ever heard of someone or acually heard a wrx that has just taken off the muffler? i was just wondering if anyone has because i am kinda tight on money right now but i want that sexy rumble sound!!! any info would be great! thanks
i took my muffler appart and kind of removed everthign inside of it and replaced all that useless junk with some 3" pipe. sounds alright. i have 2" exhuast from the headers back so it is kind of muffled. but for $18 cant beat it

So you custom welded a 3 inch pipe right into the stock muffler after gutting the internals? I was considering doing this to mine. Do you have pictures, how-to, sound clip, etc? I'm interested!

I'm running open right now around town and it's hella loud. I want it stock looking so that's why I'd wanto hack into the stock muffler.

i ran no muffler for a while a my old 02 wrx. everything else engine wise was stock. It actually sounded pretty nice, not too loud but you could definatly hear it.

I have a friend down the street from me who has a stock WRX, except for a BOV. He wanted some sound out of his car but didn't want to shell out a bunch of cash so he went down to a local muffler shop and had them replace his complete catback with a custom bent 2 1/2" straight pipe...no resonator or muffler involved. It sounds pretty clean and mellow, as ish said, and all the cats in the downpipe act as mufflers, anyways. Cost him roughly $130.

since on mine the inlet to the muffler is towards the top and the out is at the bottom i had to angle teh 3" pipe to fit. so from the outside it slants down a bit, but unless you look at it close, it just looks stock!
My car is NA so it will sound slightly diffrent the then the turbo varieyt but it sounds good. (hard to mess up boxer rumble). Its got a low tone to it all the way trough redline. it drones alittle at cruisign speeds, 2.5-3k at half throttle it sounds like its stock still. it likes to pop alot at around 2k. get it there and feather the gas and pop....pop.pop.pop.crack.pop. its fun. not loud like a back fire, but just some pops.
i will have to see if i can find some pics of it, i have no clue how to post sound.
