Stromung catback exhaust

I just installed a Stromung cat back exhaust on my '03 wagon. I really like the sound; nice and throaty but not too loud. I haven't seen too much discussion about this brand in the forum, but thought some of you might like to know they have at least one satisfied customer.

I was wondering if any one else was thinking of getting this exhaust. How loud is it? Does it drone in the cabin when at cruising (or hyper-cruising) speeds? Do you still have the third Cat? and where and how much did you get it for (if you don't mind me asking)

I don't consider it to be loud. In fact, I didn't want a loud exhaust. It's a nice deep mellow tone. I haven't taken it on the freeway yet, but around town it's not obtrusive at all. I think it's just right. If it were much quieter and it would almost sound stock. I bought it from SPD Tuning Service: www.spdusa.com. Mike is a good guy. It's $480 and looks to be very well made. I got the dual tip exhaust. He told me up front that if I wasn't happy with the sound he'd take it back.

I didn't upset any of the cats. It's strictly a cat back muffler and installation looks very simple (although I paid a local muffler shop $60 to install it for me.) Hope that answers your questions.

unthanke just an FYI, that $480 only buys you the muffler (ie: axle-back). The cat-back consist of a mid-pipe too.

Thanks for the response unthanke. I was wondering how the service was at SPD. I heard a lot of good things about Mike. I had written him an email a while ago, but he never responded. I would still like to deal with him though, because I like the content of his website.

GTBGUY, in the strictest sense of the definition of 'cat-back', the system that unthanke has purchased is a 'cat-back' system, because the modification occurs after the last of the catalytic converts. An 'axle-back' system is just a muffler, that is welded on to the pipe section after the rear axle.

I've heard Mike on a local car radio show and I like the way he thinks. I'd say he's a tad more rational about improving the performance of the Impreza than some, tending to try and improve the whole package as opposed to just hotrodding the engine. I'm suprised he didn't get back to you though. I know he was ill recently, maybe that's why you didn't get a responce. I've called him and he's been very helpful over the phone.

I've got:

Stromung High-Flow cat DP
Stromung 3rd cat eliminator pipe
Stromung dual tip muffler

The dealer put this on the car before I test drove it and bought it. Compared to my wife's WRX wagon, it sounds like a real machine! But it's not ear splitting in anyway. I enjoy hearing it, and this is what a Suby should sound like stock!

I can't believe the dealer would install this stuff! I thought they would use any excuse not to provide warranty work. I'm personally reluctant to do anything to upset my warranty; I sprung for the extended warranty as well since I plan on keeping the car past the standard warranty period.

Its a nice setup barely audible from the inside of the cabin. It is in no way a drone. Only when you really get on it.......does it let you hear its deep sound. A gal friend of mine driving next to me stated "it sounds like Larry's Corvette" Well Larrys corvette is stock. But sorry I dont have a sound clip either..

My Stromung connection is memeber Chris Jones.. lets his wife drive his WRX with the Stromung to work and she likes it!!!! So theres an example of the wife test.
