Stock Temp Gauge Fluctuates

I was driving, stuck in traffic and I noticed my sotck temp gauge rising, then the fans kicked on an it was normal the rest of the way (even in traffic). It was like 50 degrees outside and I never noticed the gauge behave like this. The needle stayed iwthin the two little lines in the middle of the gauge. Is this normal or am I about to overheat at some point in the future.
Thanks!

Stock gauge is kinda useless. I think it just has 3 settings: "off", "ok" and "**** too late".

needle def goes up a little and comes down when i start the car. what does that mean?
and at this point i don't really want to drive the car cause everytime i drive it it will run ok and after driving and coming to a stop the temp will rise and the fans will come on and bring it back down. i'm thinking this is a typical thermostat problem (prolly sticking or not fully opening) or something is just clogging up my coolant system (which I can't imagine).

gonna do research on how to get to that thing, unless it's really a pain in the *** and the dealer would be a more worthwhile option. (i'm still under warranty).

Stock temp gauges def suck.

thanks everyone!

I think I know

I ran into this problem with my 2.5RS. I believe it was the O2 valve and sensor. My car wasn't actually over heating, just the valve wasn't opening unless I had my foot on the gas. I was still under warranty, so it didn't cost me anything but I think the cost would have only been about $80.00 then anyways.

My generic rule of thumb though, is if the temp gauge isn't at it's normal position or what you have come to know as normal, it's time to take it in...
