youll need at the BARE minimum......

Sti or equivilant injectors (550cc) .........
Walboro fuel pump.........
Engine management of some sort tuned for stage 4.........

then to be on the safer side.....

fuel rails
catless exhaust
aftermarket intercooler

Personally, If you were to get the turbo shop around for used injectors and fuel pump. Ive seen the inj. go for $275 sometimes and FP as low as 60 bucks.

good luck,
Michael

okay fuel rail and upgraded intercooler are not needed what so ever. i believe the sti turbo is a IHI VF 39. i would sugguest the sti 560 injectors, and fuel pump also. And if you dont want to waste money on a reflash, for about 300 more you can get a ECUteck or Link standalone.

anytime you increase boost. you should change your stock uppipe for a catless uppipe.
the increase in the EGTs will normally destroy a stock cat, there for throwing debris striaght into your turbo.....not good.

add a Helix uppipe or an STi uppipe to your list.

VF-39 is a turbo that got the STi to power just because it has 2.5 liters against the WRX 2.0. I know STi guys who are changing their 39's for any of the VF series.

Why cheat out your car if you are gonna spend that much money in supporting mods ?

If you want to see some good results then go with a VF-34. If you want the rolling results then go with the VF-22. Do some more research but I don't think delving into a used stock STi turbo is the best of ideas.

Good Luck
Rush

all ihi vf turbos are weak.

I'd go with deadbolt 18g, FP green, or gt30-r.

vf turbos are weak depends on what you're comparing to. everyone has a budget and everyone has different goals on what they wanna do to their cars.. power isn't everything.. so .. weak and strong turbos are highly debatable

I cant justify spending $700 on a vf34 turbo that will give like 20 whp over stage 2. Seems like a waste imo.

It is not nessesarily the hp difference that the vf 34 gives you over stock turbo. It' the flow charachteristics. You can run the same Psi, say 16 on a vf 34 as a td04 and i would be willing to bet your car would be faster in the middle and top rpms, with all the supporting mods of a vf 34. It is very plain to see that you can get low 13 sec 1/4 mile with a stock turbo and tuning but most people go to the vf34 or 30 to get into the high 12's. that would be pretty good for me.

I'd rather spend $150 more and get 120whp more from an 18g. It spools the same as a vf34, so why not go that route? Why settle for high 12's when you can have high 11's for only $150 more.

ur 18G isnt that much better than a VF34....sorry to break it to you. you've given your two sense, now let him make up his own mind.

The VF39 is a nice replacement over the stcok TD04. You will much better midrange and top end with the 39 over the stocker. The 39 will also offer fairly fast spool up. In my opinion, if you can get one for a good price that has not been abused and you are looking for more grunt but not make the car more difficult to drive, as well as CHUG gas like the larger turbos will help u do...stick with a VF series turbo. It all depends on what you want to get out of your car....

let' s see a vf34 make 354 whp and boost 26 psi. Probably not.

What does a vf34 make? like 250whp?

I think a vf34 flows like 400cfm vs the 18g's 600cfm on a 2 liter.

Why am I arguing this anyways? The GT-30R is where it's at. I hope to buy one sometime.

'I guess if you can pick up a vf39 for $300 or so, it would be a good deal. Which is a decent improvement over stock.
