STI catback
STI catback
I have just purchased a Sti catback exhaust for $300 for my 03 wrx, a good deal i thought, i just wanted to know does anyone know if i will see some decent gains with it? I have the cobb stage 2 re-flash and i was told it would be more beneficial to get rid of the stock cat back.
Is the STI cat back any good or was this just a waste of money? i sould be getting it in the next week or so.

The cobb web page states that if you do not have a turbo-back exhaust system your car cannot take advantage of the Stage 2 re-flash. So if possible, I would pass on the STI Cat-back and invest in a turbo-back. The only problem is that turbo-back gives rise to emissions and warranty problems.
Also, since when does subaru offer an STI cat-back? I have an '02 WRX and was looking into exhaust systems. At that time, approximately a year ago, the STI exhaust was nothing more than a muffler. Be careful what you buy. Good Luck.

you bought a axle back... the STi piping is the same diameter as the wrx the only difference between the two is the muffler part...
i have the STi axle back and i didn’t feel any extreme gains or nothing great... yeah it gives the car a low tone rumble instead of the stock muffler muffle... but other than that it don’t do jack crap...
BTW: i got mine for free

mattesq -- the STi catback is basically the stock catback on an STi Version. But like zumnwrx said, the piping's pretty much the same so it is indeed an axleback essentially.
Like mattesq said you should not be at stage 2 without a turbo back exhaust (or at least a down pipe) so if you dont have a turbo back and you have the access port I would switch to stage 1 the next time you plan on driving it. Im no pro but I would think you will be increasing backpressure to a dangerous level with stage 2 and the factory exhaust. http://cobbtuning.com/wrx/power-s.html#stage2

I should really know being that I took a flashlight to it, but I think it reverses once so it's like an S but with no baffles just a lot of packing material around it, that's why it's so big. Again, it's been a while since i looked at it off the car so take it with a grain of salt.

Anywhere I can get one for cheap?

Or you can be like me: Run a straight pipe for an axleback
Only thing different between the STI and WRX exhaust if the muffler (axleback). There is a bit less restriction there. I believe the WRX has 4 baffles in the muffler, while the STI has 2. So you will see very slight gains and a bit more noise... not much though. Don't buy anything but the Axle back... all else it the same.
