You would have to remove your downpipe, BOV, and Utec when smog time came around. The only legal mods under CARB rules are a catback exhaust end uh.... okay just one. However, you can usually get away with an uppipe and reflash, unless the smog guy really doesn't like you.

I doubt you'd pass with the downpipe. If you were at a strict shop, you'd likely fail visual, and you may fail emissions as well.
What year is your car? Ahnold just recently signed some new smog rules to law - if your car is an '02, you don't have to smog it (as part of the bi-annual smog program) until 2009. 2010 for '03, 2011 for '04, etc.

i have an 02 subaru wrx that i purchase in may of 04. im planning to go catless but i dont want to go through the trouble of putting stock parts back in. when do you think my next smogs gonna be. i think the car was produce in mid 01 maybe around july if that helps. i live in CA by the way
new cars are exempt from smog check for the first 5 years or so. (Someone correct me if i'm way off). So yours should be come up soon. As long as you're thinking about only doing catless, it's not THAT big of a pain to change it. but if you don't want to go through the hassle, you can wait a few months. You'll still have to take it off again 2 years later though

Vehicle model years subject to smog check in CA as of December 2004 (Adobe Acrobat reader required). These charts and text are somewhat confusing to me but lin_tp2's car looks like it would be due for smog check in 2006 because his MY02 (Model Year 2002) car has changed ownership.
My own MY02 car is scheduled for smog check in 2008 according to the first chart but the second chart states that cars aren't due until they are seven model years old, which would be 2009.

The chart isn't that confusing. Under 4 years old, smog only at initial registration(coming from out of state). 5-6 Years old smog at change of ownership or initial registration. 7+ years old: smog every 2 years, at change of ownership and initial registration.
Coming from out of state you have to smog it regardless of year, then start the every two year routine at 7 years old.
In state cars cars start the 2 year smog rotation at 7 years old, unless it's for a change of ownership, then if it's 5+ years old you need to have it smogged before it can change ownership. The smogging is the sellers responsibility unless otherwise stated in the sales agreement.

AHHHHHHHH, thanks for the clarification Illusion....that chart confused me too. I bought my car in Carson City, NV....had to smog it to register in CA, but now dont need another smog until 2010. Is that right? If so, SWEEEEEEEEEEEET!

I called one of my buddies that has a smog station in his shop and he verified that that is correct. You need to smog it on initial entry into california, then when the model year is 7 years old you start the two year bit. The only thing he was unclear of and said he'd get back to me is the model year stipulation, like if you buy and 05 in 04 do you have 8 years or 7(like I did, mine was the very first 05 wagon off the trailor at the dealership)
i got my 03 in 04 the dealer somg it,now i dont need to smog it till 2010 i love this new smog rule,i have a uppipe, downpipe, hks bov, just take off the downpipe, and bov and smog it ,you will be okay the uppipe,is only for start up smog

Ok, called my buddy again. It's 7 years added to whatever the model year is, so if you buy an 05 in 04, the smog is due in 2012 on whatever month you bought it.
02 due in 2009
03 due in 2010
04 due in 2011
05 due in 2012
06 due in 2013.....
Unless you plan on selling the vehicle, then it's model year plus 5 years. So if you're selling a 2002 model, if you sell it in 2007 you have to get it smogged, otherwise it's exempt, and again if you bring a vehicle in from out of state, it gets it's initial entry smog, then follows the rest, 7 years if you own it, 5 years if you'e selling it.
02 due in 2009
03 due in 2010
04 due in 2011
05 due in 2012
06 due in 2013.....
