Slow vf34 EJ205 ????

I recent brought my 03 wrx to the drag strip to see what she would run.

I'm running cobb stage 4 map,one step colder plugs, helix tmic, vf34 turbo, sti injectors, walbro pump, 3" turbo back (4" belmouth dp) uppipe. Completely catless. I can only seem to get around 14.3... this number is disappointing and I'm begining to expect something might be wrong.

I do seem to get decent boost in all gears (16 +/- .5) as per the map says. I'm not sure waht else to check. Any suggestions? Is it just my crappy driving? I seem to bog down on launch (~4500 rpm with some feathering)

are you running the AP stage 4 map? or a custom stage 4 tune? 14s are really slow for what your running.

14.3 sec = stock EJ205 w/ good driver

I think it's a combination of your drag skills and the OTS map. It sounds like that map isn't working for you at all. Get your car to a respectable tuner and have him tune it on a few dyno runs, I'm betting that will clear everything up.

Or, in retrospect, a lot can be associated with your location. Desert heat and mountainous areas tend to kill performance also.

I have almost the same setup as you but I have a JDM STI TMIC and some other stuff. Before I got the tune last weekend, my boost spike and the car doesn't drive smooth at all. I didn't hit target boost with the off the self map.

got the tune the car drives much better now and I hide 19lbs and no spikes.

Dont worry about sounding like a dick its okay. I know taht I'm part of the issue, I'd rather hear that then to hear that its the car.

So I am running the OTS Cobb map. my 60ft is like 2.3 (not great I hear). my trap speed was 97mph
I seem to bog down when I launch, then it pulls real strong

I'm not really interested in drag racing, but I was hoping to get a good idea of mine and the car's ability.

I submitted a request to PDXTuning to get a new map with the hopes that they might be able to help vs going to a tuner. I've been thinking about gettting an appointment locally though with dbtuned.

different car reacts differently to the OTS map or other non-custom map. A protune will bascially give you a map that is taylored to your car. From what you are saying it seems like your car is not running smooth at all if you can only feel it kick it after u lanuch for a while. Of course the turbo doesn't kick in at low RPMs but then it shoudl be smooth and not jerky. Trust me get a protune. It's so worth it. In my opinion, if you are stage 2 or below, you won't see a differences with the protune, but since you are on stage 2.5 w/ a non-stock turbo then get a protune because drivability while getting power is very important IMO.

yea I should run way better. I wouldn't doubt that its my driving, just worried it might be something else. =\ I was having some boost leak issues with a GFB BOV, I swapped on the stocker. I'm also using a nitrous IC sprayer.

I have the blue wrx with the CF hood and gold rota torques.
