Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Should I Be Concerned About This

Those with the Vishnu catback exhaust, may already know about this, but the problem I have is that my vishnu keeps tapping/rubbing up against the differential housing. On Vishnu's website, it's stated that the exhaust won't clear the rear diff, so it's not a big surprise to anyone. It's not leaning over on the diff, there's still a little space between, but whenever I go over rough roads (which sway the car a certain way) I hear a squeaking noise. I've taken the car down to my dealership a number of times already. They've done all they could, going as far as shaving down the diff housing a bit (not recommended), yet the exhaust still taps. Can I live with this, or will the rubbing eventually cause a hole in the exhaust? I'm thinking of getting another exhaust, although I'm not happy about it because I love the sound and quality of the vishnu. Any helpful advice would be appreciated. Oh, btw, I'm using kartboy hangers too, and I've played around with the adjustable mounts on the muffler.

I think the problem lies in the maiting between the factory downpipe/cats and the vishnu catback. I have the vishnu single dump turboback (not signature series), and the thing sits under the car, solid as a rock, and clears the rear dif by about as much as mbeach's signature series. Maybe there is something to be said for reinstalling it.

On my RS about two years ago, I had the same type of problem with my stromung catback. The local shop solved the problem my heating up the pipe and compressing it a little in the area that it was bumping. Seems kinda distructive, but it worked. Just an idea.

good luck

The optional polyurethane hangers we sell on the website will take care of the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. The vishnu catback is mated up to a Perrin dp. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
BANSUVS, how would the vishnu hangers work any better than the kartboy ones that I have on there now? I'm sure they're high quality, but do they hang differently? Would the vishnu hangers solve the problem, even with the catback mated to the perrin dp? Or were you thinking that I had the full vishnu tbe? Pardon my ignorance, but I take it that you work for Vishnu? If you can guarantee me that the vishnu hangers will cure this annoying problem of mine, I'll order those puppies today.

Its an Alignment thing. When I first put on my Catback, NOTHING rubbed or bumped anything. Then I had my uppipe installed and they had to loosen the exhaust from the midpipe and loosen the downpipe from the turbo. After he tightened it all back up, my exhaust started hit the diff. So its just a matter of loosening things up and getting things lined up again. But Im in no hurry to crawl back under my car anytime soon, so I just got the hangers kinda holding it in place by having one SSSTTTRREEETTCCHHHEEDD out a little for now. Im sure its not good for the hanger, but nothing rattles.
