short ram intake question

I have an 02 wrx and have been looking at the cobb,AEM, and SPT intakes. The question I have is, will the intake alone make my car run like crap? I am planning on going stage 2 later this year and getting my car tuned. Should I just go with a upgraded drop in filter for now. I want the intake instead of the drop in mainly for the sound LOL.

I recommend using the stock intake whenever possible.

Intakes on the stock td04 is pretty much useless. I ran the stock air box with a k&n drop in filter with a VF34 and was making 330whp 315tq on a conservative tune.

I would spend that money on a k&n drop in filter and on something else. (not a bov)

I had an HKS panel filter, worked awesome...I also had the k&n but that filter has oil and the oil was getting my maf dirty so I went with the hks...

I was thinking about the k&n drop in. Definitely not going to buy a BOV that thought never crossed my mind haha. I just like the way intakes sound on subies. When ever my td04 dies I am probably going to go with a vf39, sti tmic, injectors, and warlbro fuel pump.

If you have to have an intake go with the SPT, typhoon or COBB.

ended up going with the apexi drop in a few months ago and so far so good! I like it because it's a dry filter so I don't have to worry about getting oil on my MAF

Stock intake and a paper filter works just fine.
