When I plan on getting the better TMIC for the time being... I noticed that there are Samco hoses, that are made of silicon. My question is, are these really better than the stock hoses? I know they LOOK better, and they are a lot smoother inside but is that it? I also read that you can not use your stock clamps on the hoses..? If that is the case what do you do then?
I have been looking at pictures and the quality seems to very. By this I mean I have seen about 6 pictures of the SAME kits from Samco, and all the hoses look like they are different sizes. The radator hose being one of them. One red one I saw looked to be at least 1 inch smaller in length than the black kit and blue kit...
Is this just a bad photo? Before I put $200+ in 5 pieces of hose, I want to make sure it's worth it and that they are good quality parts!
Thanks :-)

Just put a set of intercooler hoses on mine and the fit was excellent. The stock hose clamps worked fine, and the install took only about 45 minutes. The only hard hose to install is the BOV return because one end is hard to reach. In my opinion, they are worth the money, I have seen dyno graphs showing a 9hp increase from the hoses alone.

From a stock car I noticed zero difference before and after, I went with Samco hoses and not all the stock clamps would fit, Had to buy new ones. Would I use them again, umm nope. Maybe after things are upgraded but not as a first second or third mod.
But if you want them anyways get em from here http://www.oakos.com/wrx/
Great site to order from.

i would have to agree with t-wrexxx on that because i believe those stock hoses swell under boost the time longer until you can reach max boost/hp whatever you wanna call it. i would recommend it but not the radiator hoses or any of that crap, only the intercooler hoses, mine should be here in about a week or so
looking forward to it

Welp I just bought my JDM STI intercooler... Looks like I am going to get the intercooler hoses... But if you don't mind me asking why not the radiator hoses? Aren't those a good thing to upgrade as well? I noticed that if you get both sets you save a little money... Now which color, red or blue...hehe I have a sonic yellow rex :-)

on a bone stock car you're not likely to notice a huge difference.
on a modded car you'll notice more readily.
case in point.. i had an MBC hooked up when i installed mine. manifold pressure @ 5k5 rpms was up a full pound. the mbc was adjusted to compensate and bring it back in line.
this means the compressor turbine is working less, and therefore demanding less power from the exhaust wheel, which means less exhaust gas back pressure. in addition, the one less PSI demanded at the outlet of the compressor means better efficiency. it's all good.
just look at the OEM pipes and you will see there's a lot of room for improvement!
flow restrictions such as hoses, ics, etc, are obviously zero problem with no airflow volume, and grow increasingly important at higher airflow volumes. in other words, you'll notice a greater difference in the higher rpm ranges (where airflow is high), and at higher boost levels (where the air is more viscous).

i hear they do help the smoothness of the car
the stock piping is all rigid and makes the air jumble around before it gets to desired location
with the samco hose kit, it makes the air flow smoothly

dyno proven hp gains with Samcos.
I also SAW (in person so its not just rumor) a guy run 14.0 flat with nothing but a muffler and samcos IC hoses. And a muffler does just about squat on a basically stock car

oh btw, you are worried about what to do if you cant use the stock clamps???holy crap man, just head to pep boys and buy new clamps if you cant.
Either way, it doesnt matter, because the stock clamps work fine

Vishnu and Perrin claim to be smoother than SAMCO... so even better. I have the SAMCO ones, clamps fit, looks nice, a noticable power increase. I felt it and so did my friend... he rode with me and said "whoa, what'd you do to the car? its faster than before".
Obviously, you only need to get these if you plan to stick with the stock IC. Any IC upgrade I have seen does not use the same hoses... or comes with hoses. Great bang for the buck mod @ $125.
