Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Anyway now at idle my car sounds like an old man on crack. It sits at about 1000 rpm then will drop to around 300-400 almost sputtering out. It sounds like it is idiling a lot harder than it ever did before.

I asked a friend of mine and he said that his Firebird used to do the same. Thats all well and good but my car is a 2004 not a 1983. Is this anything to worry about? And if so how do i fix it?

Thanks in advance
If you tapped the vacuum line for the boost gauge and its leaking it would cause that.

just get a can of wd-40 and spray on the vacuum line

if the idle suddenly jumps up a bit it would mean you have a leak there.

If by "not completely hooked up yet" you mean that the hose was connected at the engine but not connected to the gauge, then this is your problem. The open line from the manifold is causing a vacuum leak. If you aren't going to finish the gauge install immediately, either remove the tap and put the line back the way it was, or plug the end of the hose with a tight-fitting screw so it doesn't leak any more. Once you take care of this your car should run normally.

not to hijack the thread, but i kinda have a similiar issue with my boost gauge. I dont notice any differences in idle, but the needle in my boost gauge kinda shakes at idle but then it smoothly climbs as i drive. Sometimes its smooth, sometimes it shakes like crazy at idle.

Where did you tap into.

I believe the boost gauge stock is setup to be connected into the blowoff valve vacuume line.

i tapped into the stock bov line. The thing works and reads boost, but i kinda want it to work perfectly.

I suppose it could be a small leak in the line but i've never really looked at the boost gauge at idle. I guess you'll need a second opinion

it probably is working right. idle isn't always at a constant rpm just because your tachometer says it is, the signal is filtered for that. vaccuum isn't constant either, but most gauges don't have much filtering or dampening. sometimes mine wavers a little at idle, other times it's rock solid.

This might not remedy the problem necessarily, but remember to reset your ECU whenever you slap on a new mod. It could help, but then again the problem might be bigger than just that. Good luck.
