Question Revs dropping about 4500 at WOT.

So I'm driving full throttle in like fourth gear about 4500 rpm, all the sudden the revs drop to 4000 and start revving normally again. Tried it a few more times and it did the same thing. What do you think?

Car is an 03 wrx with 73,000 miles. Original clutch running stage 1 ca map, spt catback, spt intake and Sti intercooler. Running this setup for 4 years and today was the first time it's done this. : /

how much boost are you running? over 17 psi on a cobb stg1 the ecu cuts boost,so you might be boost creeping and its cutting out?

No cels or noise. Was going too fast to also check boost gauge. I did notice it did seem faster right before the rev drop. Could be fuel cut. Next time I'll check the boost gauge before the tach. I just noticed I was going really fast one second and not as fast the next. Tach dropped from 4500 to 4000 and then reved normally. I'm hoping it's my clutch since there is 74k on it but I don't think that makes sense. Thanks for the input!

Same thing today. Hit around 1 bar in 4th gear about 4000-4500 rpms and revs and boost dropped about 500 rpms and started to rev normally again. Doesn't seem to do this in 3rd gear. Overboost fuel cut maybe?

OK count out the clutch as if that was going you would go up in RPM's rapidly when it slips.

Unless its going to 4500 rpm rapidly then drops as the clutch grabs but I dont think that is the problem.

Did you get a bad tank of fuel?

it sounds like the ECU is pulling timing, or you are getting boost cut.
Also due to the colder weather your tune may be a bit off.

Is it a hard cut like a rev limiter, or do the rpm's drop smoothly and then pick up again? If they drop smoothly, its likely your clutch slipping, then catching again.

Not really a hard cut, drops smoothly but noticeable. Drops about 500 RPMs and continues to accelerate normally. Strange. I'm kinda going its the clutch since it does have 84k on it. The other variable would be has. I recently filled the tank. It's just kinda strange that it seems to only happen in higher gears around 4k where it's making peak torque.
