Review: AccessPort with VF34

So as I'm sure you've read here or on NABISCO, I've had the Cobb AccessECU VF34 reflash for a couple months. It's a map for VF34, STi injectors, uppipe, turboback, and I've added a Walbro fuel pump also. The review of the map is that I love it. You can re-read those reviews by searching.

I _finally_ got my AccessPort this week after pre-ordering in late-Jan/early-Feb. Plug it in to flash my car and there is not a VF34 map on it by default. Kind of annoying as it's setup to only allow computer interface AFTER you've flashed the first base map.

So I had to flash my car with any old map that was preloaded (I used the stock map), load the VF34 base map using the software, and change basemaps to the VF34.

Everything worked like a charm. Major thumbs up to Cobb for truly innovating. Wish I could buy stock in AccessECU!

Forgot to add...that I thought I would be a smart guy, and since my ECU was already flashed to the map I wanted, I'd use the AP on my wife's 02 WRX until I needed to change my map.

Turns out I found out what the "Upgrade Edition" of the Accessport is! It won't reflash an ECU that hasn't already been reflashed by Cobb. Kinda weird but they are smarter than me!

Of course You wouldn't want to sell a product to someone just so they can make money off other people? Cobb doesn't want you charging other people for reflashes, you'd be the only one making all the money. That's why the Accessport only marries to the first ECU it reflashes. After that you can never use that on anybody elses ECU. Congrats on the Accessport though, I should be getting mine this month (crosses fingers) . How big of a difference was it when you got the VF34 and injectors?

You can un-marry (divorce???) it if you want to part the car out or something. The AP may then be used on another WRX.

Yes that is true. What I meant was that you won't be able to successfully reflash your ECU then other people's ECUs with the Accessport. I think that's what he was bummed about.

No....not at all. That was understood from the beginning. The part I was bummed about was the "upgrade edition" of the accessport...that it can only reflash a previously flashed Cobb ECU. No big deal though....it's married to my car now.

I'm only worried that when I "uninstall" it when I part out, that it won't be a full version that is able to reflash a stock ECU. Oh well...guess I'll find out eventually.

The 34 map is awesome. Talked to another local guy who went from TXS-4 w/UTEC to this map and he says there is no comparison. Never heard a ping with the Cobb map...no adjustments necessary. I'm happy too....EVO's and 350Z's fear me. Haven't met a stock STi yet but I suspect they will fear me too!

Just got my vf34 installed and flashed it with my new port too! Yeah, this setup hauls big time! I noticed that 5th gear highway pull is a little laggier than the cobb stage 2, but that's okay. Big props to Cobb

5th gear? What's that? I find myself dropping it to 3rd @ 65-70 to really get pushed back in the seat.

This isn't mine, it's the graph of NASIOC member "blackie", with Cobb Stage 2, then Cobb Stage 2.5 (VF34) on the same dyno.

The intercooler sprayer was not on for the VF34 run.
