Reusing stock main bearings
I have about 5k miles on my current block. I am going to tear down and replace the rods and pistons. I have new rod bearings and I was wondering if I can reuse the main bearings?
TIA

bearings usually need a certain amount of "crush" to be installed properly. Usually, after being torqued in place and subjected to a crank whipping around inside of them, they lose this crush. If you do want to re-use, at least mic their clearances and compare to Subaru's specs. I would invest in a new set, myself. Without the proper crush they can beat up the saddles in the block and over a short period of time, you'll lose oil pressure.
if your going to reuse make sure they are in PERFECT condition... pull them out and check the diameter across to make sure they will still squeeze tightly in place, and check the clearances with plastigauge. no scratches no dings no eyelashes
