residue in intercooler piping

residue in intercooler piping
i was putting on my bov and as i disconnected the hoses to the rail that runs across the intercooler i noticed some residue that looks redish (i think its oil) is that normal? what is the purpose of that rail neways?

Yeah, it is part of the PCV system. This is why some people run 'catch cans', to reduce the oil residue being sucked back into the intake.
Like international B said, a bit is ok....a lot is not.

Keep in mind that any of the oily fumes reaching your intercooler are coating the inside of it.
This obviously degrades the unit's cooling efficiency.
Have a look into the IC inlets the next time you have your IC off.
If you decide to, you can clean your IC hoses and IC core with brake cleaner. Just remove everything, spray into the inlets, and let the excess evaporate for 10 minutes. You should not use WD40 or the like.
