random tech. mid-pipe w/high flow cat...

http://www.3sxperformance.com/wrx/exhaust.asp

-- it's down at the bottom of the page. anyway, has anyone used one of these to build your own turboback? it would seem to me that you could do sort of a staged approach to it; i.e. up/down pipe, then a cat back later, and then the midpipe, resulting in a high flowing turbo back. obviously you'd have to have DP that works with the stock center cat, but other than that you'd only really be limited by your imagination...

I looked at Random Technology's WRX page for quite a while. I like their approach to making clean-running engine parts and I like the fact that they use 3" tubing, but I haven't seen a good photo of their downpipe turbo flange. I would like to know if it's a bellmouth or just a typical flat plate flange.

Strömung has just come out with a 3" turbo back system, using a divorced wastegate downpipe (no cat available), high-flow third cat pipe, and their current 3" catback. I think their components are supposed to bolt up to factory WRX stuff, too.

the link that i posted has the best pics i've seen yet of their products. i'm 99% sure that their DP isn't a bellmout, and i'm 100% sure that its not a divorced wastegate design . i was thinking that the midpipe w/cat would be great for replacing the WRX's 3rd cat for those running it with and up/downpipe combo. it looks to me like it should bolt right up to the stock pieces.

I have talked to Random technologies about their mid pipe, and it WILL NOT mate-up with the stock unit (or the bosal dp or Scooby Sport dp). The stock flange off the dp is a 2 3/4" oval, the Random tech is a 3" round. If you are trying to find a high flow 3" midpipe w/ cat to match-up to your stock/bosal/scooby sport dp you are SOL. However, a good machine shop can make you a 2 3/4" oval flange cheap and an exhaust house should be able to custom build you a center pipe for about $100.00. You can pick-up a high flow cat for around $70 at any number of sites. That is the only solution I know of.
