QuakerState vs. Mobil 1
the last few oil changes I've used Quaker State's High RPM synthetic oil. Does anyone know how this oil stacks up to the Mobil-1 brand oils? I would like to be able to use redline oils, but $6.99 a quart is too much for me...
TIA
EDIT: I forgot to mention, its a 2002 WRX with a 4EAT that I use for rally-x (possibly some auto-x this season) for the rally-x I just put the car in 1st and leave it there so the RPMs run pretty high, hence the use of the "high RPM" oil
TIA

I honestly don't know anyone who uses Quaker State synthetic. I use Mobil 1 because it's readily available at an affordable price.
During rally-x, chances are that the duration of engine high-revving is relatively short compared with what you might experience for a 20-minute lapping session at a road course track day. I think that any name brand synthetic should be sufficient as your engine won't see the type of load from 3rd or 4th gear at full-throttle.
Have you considered a small auxiliary automatic transmission cooler to protect your 4EAT?

No, I havent thought about a small AT cooler, but I'll look into it. In the list of stuff I forgot to mention, I forgot to mention track days, I've already done one at Laguna Seca and want to do more...that ish is addictive

I Googled for an independent test of available synthetic motor oils and came up with nothing relevant. Most of the search results pointed to Amsoil's site or distributors. Because of that, I can't view those tests as unbiased.
I use Mobil 1 mainly because I believe that synthetics will be better for our engines under just about any circumstances compared with conventional oils. I do not have any data to back up my opinion, sorry. What might be useful is to visit an SCCA event and speak with the racers who do this for a living or at least many, many weekends out of the year as a hobby. Ask them what lubricants they use in their race cars and then ask them if they use those products because they are sponsored by Red Line (or whoever).
I think that using a name brand, commercially available synthetic motor oil and performing frequent oil and filter changes will give good reliability and long engine life barring mechanical failure (knock on wood).

I personally have used mobil 1 synthetic and when i went to red line......night and day. Plus i have noticed that i dont get as much oil burning up with the red line. It is hands down the best oil in my opinion. It is worth every penny.

I know the member who posted was asking specifically about Quaker State synthetic but there is a vendor on the forums who is running a special on 5 quarts of Red Line and a factory oil filter. Red Line oil is pricey but if you really feel the need for it, this might be a good deal.

Mobil 1
There must be a reason Porche & Chevy Corvett are suggested to use Mobil1, by their manufacturers. I believe Mercedes does also.
Last I heard, Amsoil, Mobil 1, Redline, & Royal Purple were the only true synthetics.
The others have a different molecular chain.
