Question Mobil 1 0W-20 local?

Mobil 1 has been making a new oil (For Honda's, VW's and the other new cars that require 5W-20 oil) 0W-20. It is available in other parts of the country, but I can't find it anywhere around here.

Has anybody seen this anywhere. I really want to run something other than Valvoline dino, Castrol GTX, Motorcraft, or Honda Dino oil in my new Civic.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy

The 7th generation Civics require 5W-20 too now! Helps with the milage. But I want synthetic. Redline doesn't make it, I don't trust Royal Purple, and Amsoil 5W-20 isn't a true synthetic (It is a hydrocracked group III dyno oil).

GTX is probably the best dino oil because it has all of that friction reducing moly in it, but it is a dino oil, and I want an esther based synthetic oil!

the oil cap on my moms 01 accord says 5W20 as well, I dont know what the deal is with that...I know all oil changes done at honda give u 5w30 b/c they dont have seprate pumps...the only "special oil" they use is 0w20 in hybrids...I change my moms oil for her at home and I use 5w30 or 10w30 when I do it...I dont think it effects it too much

also I wanna add that if a customer requested synthetic we used to use 5w30 castrol fully synthetic oil, even on the new civics and crv's and accords...

It is OK to use a 5w-30, but it is not ideal. The ideal viscosity is 5w-20. This is done for economy, and the tighter tollerances of Honda engines. The reason that new Fords require 5w-20 is so they can meat the economy goals. It is very hard for them to do so with all of the gas guzzling SUVs they have, therefore, every tenth of a MPG aides them in their meeting of the EPA standards.

I cannot believe that your dealership is doing warranty maintenance and putting an unautorized (as per the manual) in there...seems kind of wrong to me!

Question

Why bother with synthetic oil on a civic? Have you put a turbo kit on it?

I'm just curious because I have seen so many 200K+ Honda engines that have been run on dino oil their entire life...

BADWRX- Where I work we have 5-20 Redline in stock. I did not pay attention when we got in stock but I'm assuming it is relatively new and thats why you couldn't find it. If you need some the store is in San Jose, its called All Parts Auto and the number is (408) 265-1356 if you want to check avaibility before making the trip.

that's what i'm thinking. you can always tell the guy you sell it to that you've used synth the entire time. and if your garage is clean, he might actually believe you.

and what happens to those low tolerance honda motors when they are used in extreme-duty situations such as the racetrack?
