Perrin crank pulley installed! The results.....

I just installed the perrin crank pulley. The car seem to idle a lot lower. When I put in in first gear and drove it out slowly, the car stalled. I'm guessing it's because the ECU haven't got the time to get used to the pulley yet. I drove it around for about 15 mins to see how the car feels. I couldn't tell the difference in performance. Honestly, I think it pulls a bit slower? Or maybe it's just in my head because the car stalled on me at first. The only noticable difference is like i said before, the idle is really low (idles at 500rpm now). The car haven't stall on me since. I drove home and reset my ECU and then fired it up again. Idle is still at 500rpm. Haven't really got a chance to really push the car yet because it is traffic hours. Going to push it hard tonight to see the difference. Also, Monday I will head out to the track to see the real performance of this mod. I will keep you update....

BTW, is it normal for it to idle so low?

Mods: upipe, turboback, blitz sus, mbc, and now pulley...

-John

I've always had a low idle (I have a 98 impreza)

I also installed the perrin pulley a few days ago, but i didn't notice this problem getting worse. I did, however, notice a nice performance gain.
I have an automatic, and when I punch the gas now, the thrust doesn't seem to drop off as quickly. It seems to respond more quickly to the gas, also.

Anyway- I'd like to solve my idle problem, too. Perhaps it's as easy as an adjustment. Does yours fluctuate up and down (mine used to a long time ago), or does it stay right near 500rpm?

it doesn't fluctuate around at all. it just stood right at 500rpm...

Sorry if this sounds dumb, but cant you just adjust the throttle cable to raise the rpm's? Ive never had the need to do it on my WRX so i dont know if its possible, but ive done it on other (also older) cars.

You may think it's idling at 500 RPM because it's at the mark between 0 and 1000, but that mark is actually at 750 and not 500. Your idle has probably not changed at all, you're just paying more attention to it after the pulley install. If the idle speed were to really go out of range you would get a CEL for an idle controller problem.
And no, you cannot adjust the idle by messing with the throttle cable. It is ECU controlled and non-adjustable.

mulder always ends up saving me a lot of typing..

you stalled a few times because there's less rotational inertia on the crankshaft. in other words, not as much as the car getting used to the mod as YOU getting used to it!

i honestly think the idle went down to exactly 500rpm. i kept track of my idle before i put on this mod.

going to the track tomorrow and see if this mod really shaved off 100lbs. my butt dyno can't really tell the difference with this small mod. i'll let you know if this mod is worth it or not by then.

Ecutek

If you have the Delta Dash utility you can adjust your idle with that.

folks... i know you're trying to be helpful, but...

it DID NOT CHANGE his idle speed.

if it did, there are other things wrong with his car that need to be addressed.

the real world results is the human *** cannot detect a 1-2 crank horsepower increase, but you're wallet in you're back pocket wishes it could, thus I bet it feels like you just added at least 20.

perring pulley isn't supposed to add horsepower. odd, no one has claimed that in this thread. who are you arguing with?

yeah- Have you tried any of the products being spoken of?

...and personally, I can tell when my car runs differently... re-read what I said about the gains I noticed and you may find them more believable. I (or anyone else for that matter) have not made any claims of 20hp increases-what are you talking about?

it's my car and i know when it idle lower or not. it idle exactly at 500rpm after the pulley. do you have any experience with this pulley before to judge my statement? some people from clubwrx said they're idle drop fron 750rpm to 500rpm as well. check out the thread if you like: http://clubwrx.net/forums/showthread...threadid=77948
also, for people who still have doubts about the idle being lower, why don't you just take a look at your tach and tell me where it idle at? i'm pretty sure it's at 750rpm.
