old WRX questions...

well, i did the search but nothing... (thanks to v.2 i-club )

1. is it ok to put in 5qts of oil instead of 4.8qts? I think i smell oil burning from under hood but no leak..?

2. STi hood scoop really better for cooling I/C or just cosmetic?

you should be fine with 5 quarts. maybe you spilled some oil and its burning off or you didnt tighten you oil filter all the way.

i didnt think it'd be big deal. my dealer INSIST that i put 4.8... i hope youre right. i'll double check the filter, fumoto valve, etc.

has anyone seen any kind of temp reading with STi scoop vs stock?

I had my dealer do the oil change twice so far and both times they gave me back .2qt

5 quarts should be fine.
the sti scoop - well some people say it does give gains, some say it doesnt. i personally believe an air splitter will be better.

Thanks for all your input. The reason i ask about 5qt is because I can smell oil burning from under hood, but i didnt see any leaks or spills. i thought maybe i put too much oil and somehow caused the smell. i've been putting in 5qts whenever i do the oil change.

maybe i should invest in a catch can just in case... ?
