New sounds with Uppipe and downpipe install...
Yes I've search about exhaust leaks but I still have this burning question.....
I just installed an up and down pipe on my 03 subie. I hear this high pitched fluttering noise during acceleration. This is my first turbo car so I do not know what I shoud hear and shouldn't. Please let me know your opinions, as I wonder if this is hindering my performance. The gains I have gotten are minimal and quite dissappointed for the money spent. Thinking stock exhaust is robbing the potential.
Thank to all,
Jun

Car Info: want a WRX
maybe an ecu reset would increase the gain? to do this disconnect the negative battery wire...and step on the brake for 5 seconds..you should be all set! ...oh and cat back exhaust should be your next mod, after that and (if you want) the silencer mod, go with tuning to get an extra 20-30 hp

Hearing some noise is normal. If you ever hear a noise that sounds sort of like a high pitched whistle sound, then you have a leak. One good thing to do when installing the up-pipe and down-pipe is to retighten all the bolts after the car gets warm...such as after running it for the first time to check for leaks. All the metal goes through an expansion and contraction when going through heat cycles.
yes this same thing happened to me when i got my up-pipe replaced. If you hear a high pitched shrill (similar to a bird call) that eventually gets unbearable at high rpms then youve got yourself an uppipe leak. Did you replace your gaskets when you got this work done? If not then my diagnosis if definitely an uppipe leak, probably between the flanges between the turbo and the uppipe. my 2 cents......
