New Owner - Flame free please!
Hello!
I'm a new owner of an 05 WRX (Obsidian black), bought it today! I've been lurking around here for couple of months and reading up to absorb as much information I could to find out more about my new WRX before purchasing it. I'm definitely happy with this thing!
I've done some research as well, but I could not find an specific answer for my questions:
1. Is boost creep an issue for 05 WRX, or on the STi only?
2. Will lowering springs blow the stock struts?
3. Will it be better (performance) to go for lowering springs or coil overs?
Forgive me if these questions have been asked before, but I just could not find the answers to these!

don't know about the boost creep but lowering springs won't mess up your struts as long as you don't go to low and even then they will last a while.
I would get lowering springs and adjustable struts instead of coil-overs. With springs you don't have to worry about height adjustment or any kind of up keep. Although with coil-over you can have a lot more adjustment for what you want to do.
Think about what your going to use the car for and how hard core you want your daly ride to be. If your going to do just auto-cross then get springs and struts if your going to do open track days and you want the oppertunity to adjust corner wieghts and ride height get coil-overs.
Just my opinion F.Y.I I left alot out about the advantages and disadvantages of both ways improving your suspension.

Well let me first congratulate you on your best purchase ever, hope you really enjoy it!

Coilovers tend to be labor intensive, need rebuilt once a year at an authorized service, and do not hold up well in salt water (winter). Probably the first choice of persons who like to tune their suspension. The SPI struts are $$ but seem to be holding up well in an Iowa winter. John

1.Boost creep is only preset in the STI(vf39 turbo) when you go catless
https://www.i-club.com/forums/engine-power-ej25t-sti-2006-wrx-90/why-did-do-boost-creep-44825/
Stock WRX (td04 turbo) don't have that problem.
2. Depends on the spring rate and drop. Springs like Eibach, STI pinks, or prodrives will not blow out your stock struts. Some people have been driving on lowered springs with stock struts for more then 50K+ without any problems.
3. Coilovers are what you want to get for the track but the ride is harsh! Some people have coilovers for on their daily driver and love them. If you don't plan to do any tracking (or some track days) on a daily driver, stick with a nice spring and strut setup. (i.e: pink struts and springs)
I hope this info helps you.
oh and welcome.

as far as boost creep goes i think its only on the sti's.
I find springs and shocks to be way better for daily use. You can get coilovers but its a huge pita to make sure that all corners are set at the same height and the tend to be harsh on regular roads even the ones like JIC-FLTA1. I ride on tein springs and tokico d-specs and they're awesome. Easy to adjust stiffness and the car doesnt sit to low either. Just my opinion anyway.

1. not sure on this question
2. Will lowering springs blow the stock struts? yes, the valving on stock wrx struts is not that good when lessening the travel. If you decide to go the lowering spring route, good results have been found with the agx/h&r or eibach combo, also stock UDSM or JDM STi struts work well too.
3. Will it be better (performance) to go for lowering springs or coil overs?
-Depends on overall spring rates chosen and dampening.
Coilovers are great, but do not advise to use near any salty conditions. i had a 1 year $1500+ lesson with coilovers
most people buy them thinking they can do a million adjustments on coilovers, but in actuality for daily drivabiltiy and weekend autocross you will seldom re-adjust IMO.
