Need info on Big MAF sensors

Basically my question is this:

when you tune your car to the point where you need a Big MAF sensor to allow for more boost, does the MAF sensor get replaced with (a new) one that is calibrated to allow more airflow? OR does the MAF sensor HOUSING ONLY get replaced with a larger diameter housing, and then the factory MAF sensor gets reused and installed in the bigger housing?

I'm not quite clear on how that works. So anyone that could shed some light on that subject for me would be much appreciated.

Thanks
-Ted

You obviously are stuck on Perrins terminology for their "Big MAF intake".Considering you have been a member since 03' and have over 3000 posts not sure why you don't know this information. You use the same sensor but use an intake with a slightly larger MAF housing. Both Perrin and APS (70mm intake) make such intakes. You just have to rescale the MAF for the ECU to receive the correct data.Unfortunalty this pust the sensor slightly out of direct center as it is in the stock diameter housing.

First off, there's no need to flame.....who cares if I have 1,000,000,000 posts and have been here since 1923.....I haven't needed to mess with my MAF sensor until now....coupled with the fact that I haven't posted hardly at all in the past few years, I have not needed to research this topic.

Second, Note that I only asked for some clarification, I knew it had to do with the housing, but I wasn't sure if there was such thing as a MAF that is calibrated with a higher threshold than the stock one which is entirely possible, I had no idea the stock MAF could be rescaled.

since i am not a jerk.. and i have a big maf on my car..... ( not perrin or aps ) no you dont use a new sensor, you have your tuner recalibrate for the air volume/density.... just be careful when selecting a large maf..... 3" inner diamter is preferred... and a good length before the sensor.... otherwise you get bad turbulance , which causes eratic readings..... so i assume you are installing a large turbo?

Yea, I already got this taken care of. Thank you for the reply though. I ended up getting the SPT intake and that has the correct Diameter for the MAF. I have been gathering up a bunch of parts for quite awhile, and finally got around to installing everything recently. This was just one of those last minute things I hadn't thought of yet and needed some info on real quick.
